We would describe ourselves ourselves as ‘real’ Hungary, forest to the rear, fields to the side and the village to the front. Livestock farms, a reknown apiary, where we source our honey, and local village pince houses are within walking distance. The village is small with 300-400 inhabitants, mostly farmers and foresters with a sprinkling of expats. Our traffic is tractors and lumber trucks and the occasional combine harvester and the bells still ring out to let the field workers know when it’s breakfast lunch and dinner, but we are still within a 20 minute drive of the town of Tamasi. The village watering hole is owned by an english man who has lived in the village for over 20 years. The landscape is similar to walking into a John Constable painting and often reminds us of the english countryside. We are not an affluent area but this does have the advantage of cheaper restuarants and bars.
Koppanyszanto is 40 minutes from Lake Balaton and the other side of the lake can be explored in a day by utilising the ferry service. On our days off we often take the kayak to the dog beach and paddle round to a german beerhouse on the lake for a lazy afternoon. We recommend taking the ferry to Tihany which is beautiful and a favourite day out of ours, Pecs, Kaposvár and Siófok are wonderful places to explore and shop. For the more adventurous why not try the quad bikes.
Koppany Pines itself is unfolding chapter in our lives, it’s develops with us. The last few years have reminded us to ensure we create memories and special moments. We’ve learnt the key is in the detail, hopefully as you look round the site you will see little touches of personality and creative corners you can rest and relax in nature and make your own hygge moments.
Be sure to check out our nature workshops and ask for our walking leaflets. We are continuing to evolve and this year have a swim pond planned as well as a new geochache walk to the look out tower, to run along side our existing lake walk. Last year we had a couple come to cycle the path to Tamasi – i’ll be honest we didn’t even know it was there, now it’s on the map! We run all our bookable progams from Thursday evening to Monday afternoon and the rest of the time we are hands off. We keep the self-serve cafe & micromarket stocked, so please help yourself, theres nothing better than relaxing with cake and a cup of tea, you might even find us there.
