Both Mark and I have been in awe of the nature to see on site, every day brought a new sighting, but the landing butterflies were one of my favourite moments. The way they sat quietly on our arms showing their iridescent colours was just perfect. In the main I think the bravest were the fritillary variety but my knowledge needs improving. I have prepared a butterfly chart for this year so that we are in a position to try and identify more of the species flying around site. Sadly once I investigated further the science behind it wasn’t as romantic and explained why they fluttered around us more when we were weeding in the hot sun!
...the Actual Science
If you find a butterfly coming down to rest on your arm, it’s probably just looking for salt. According to Animal Corner, there is a belief that butterflies landing on you will bring you good luck, but, in all likelihood, they’re simply attracted to your sweat. Contrary to popular belief, butterflies don’t completely live off of nectar, and some species actually need more sodium than nectar.

...Interesting fact
According to The Dream Interpretation Dictionary: Symbols, Signs, and Meanings, “A butterfly landing on you can be a sign that your unconscious mind approves of something, probably related to personal development or service to others, same as a butterfly is a servant of nature,” it says. “It can symbolize that you can be trusted with delicate things.”
